Long-Form Blog Content Is King

A lot of Internet marketers and SEO experts will tell you that content is king. They are correct, to a point. The problem is that not all content is created equal. Content can even be damaging if its low-quality. It’s going to hurt your customer experience and people aren’t going to be willing to sit and read it.

Longer content assets have more value for a number of reasons:
     A long, thorough piece of content signals to Google that this is a very authoritative source on the keyword subject
     The more value you’ve packed into this guide, the longer people stay on the page and the higher the chance that they click elsewhere on your site
     This value will also be attractive to other websites and they may link to your content from their own blog

The only drawback to developing longer blog content pieces is that they take much more time to write, edit and publish. And, not every topic is going to call for thousands of  words. If you try and stretch a small topic into a longer piece, it won’t deliver the value that readers want.

Link Building And Social Shares Provide Authority

Authority is a word that gets tossed around a lot in the SEO space. Google ranks websites on their results pages based on how authoritative they feel that a site is. After all, the search engine doesn’t want to send its users to bad, irrelevant sites. This would hurt their search experience and the Google brand.

Pay Per Click is the paid advertising model that search engines, social media sites and Internet advertising platforms use when publishing ads. Website traffic is created by paying for these ads to display on relevant pages.

Focus On Single-Keyword Ad Groups

Google hampers a lot of PPC marketers right from the start. They recommend that PPC users create ad groups that cluster several relevant keywords together. Then, you develop a single ad asset for all of the keywords in this ad group. The problem with this is that, while these keywords might relate to one another, it is hard to make an ad and landing page experience relevant to every keyword in a group.

Often, a large keyword group will have a number of terms that are very unsuccessful because they aren’t as relevant as others. Large keyword groups also mean that the ad copy has to be relatively generic to encompass all of the possible keyword combinations.

Ignore Google’s advice and focus on single-keyword ad groups, especially for your most valuable search targets. This will allow you to create ad content that is enticing and specific to that term.

Automate When Appropriate

If you’re still manually handling all of your PPC keyword bids, you’re living in the jurassic period. Thanks to machine learning and Google’s many Smart features, several of the very laborious PPC tasks are becoming automated.

Not only does this commonly lead to better ad performance, but it also gives marketers more time to commit towards other areas of digital marketing.
